HAIR CLUB is an interdisciplinary, research-based art collective whose work is centered around the multi-valent topic of HAIR in our wider culture. Co-founded by Suzanne Gold, Kelly Lloyd, and Michal Lynn Shumate, HAIR CLUB is a platform for discussion, dialogue, research, exhibition, and production that has received recognition from the Shapiro Center for Collaborative Research and from the Propeller Fund, a joint endeavor of Three Walls and Gallery 400 in Chicago, IL.

Suzanne Gold (2015 MFA in Writing with additional practice in Fiber & Material Studies, SAIC) currently lives, works, writes, and makes books in Baltimore, MD. She runs the publishing arm of HAIR CLUB and operates the design collective FuzzyMuzzle. Her visual work and writing can be found in published anthologies, featured in New American Paintings and NEWCITY magazines, traveling to art book fairs, and in a recent solo exhibition at the Comfort Station Logan Square in Chicago, IL. She has several collaborative book projects coming out in 2017 with HAIR CLUB and a solo endeavor from Partial Press. | www.suzanne-gold.com

Kelly Lloyd (Baltimore, MD) received a dual M.F.A. in Painting and M.A. in Visual & Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015, and earned a B.A. from Oberlin College in 2008. Recent exhibitions include a solo exhibition at Shane Campbell Gallery (Lincoln Park, IL), and inclusion in “Proximity to Dead Skin” at the EMP Collective (Baltimore, MD) and "Habeas Corpus" at the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art. Lloyd has recently contributed to Third Object’s “A Rule By Nobody” and Syntax Season’s “DIDACTIC” publications. She was named one of NEWCITY'S "Breakout Artists of 2015,” and is currently a semi-finalist for the Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize and the artist-in-residence at Corner (Chicago, IL). 

Michal Lynn Shumate received her BA in Art History from the University of Chicago and is currently an M.A. candidate in Visual and Critical Studies at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Drawing from her background in dressmaking, theater production, and work with collections like the Black Fashion Museum at the Smithsonian Institute and the Fashion Resource Center at SAIC, her writing investigates contemporary fashion and the spaces in which it happens. Often taking the form of performative lectures, her research topics include fashion exhibitions and runway shows, and more recently, domestic spaces and closets in particular. Publications include: "Fashion in the Expanded Field: The House of Viktor & Rolf and Valentino a Roma" (DRESS 2014).
