Adam Griffiths is a cartoonist, illustrator and arts organizer based in the DC region. He got his BFA in Video Art at Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore in 2004. In Washington, D.C., Griffiths served as an arts administrator for organizations such as Provisions Learning Project, Dupont Underground, Washington Project for the Arts, and galleries such as Civilian Art Projects helping to program tens of experimental exhibitions, art happenings, publish artist catalogs, and create video art programming. He has exhibited his illustration and video work in WPA's Options, a biennial exhibition of emerging artists from the DMV region, with Hillyer Art Space in Dupont Circle, School 33 in Baltimore MD, and the International Curatorial and Studio Practice (ISCP) program in Brooklyn NY, among others. In 2016, He was invited by transformer gallery to exhibit his work at Sala 1, a 75-year old artist-run space in Rome, Italy. He will present his first solo show at Arlington Art Center in Virginia in 2018.

Griffiths' studio practice is cartooning, comics, and illustration-focused with a politicized, diy image production ethos that he calls ZAGO.

Recently, he published the first installment of his 600-page graphic novel Washington White as a tabloid newspaper, and last year released his first mini-comic, The Permanent Night. Online, he posts full-color illustrations, numerous character sketches, works-in-process, and a weekly comic strip titled American Cryo-. He has completed workshops and residencies at The Center for Cartooning Studies in White River Junction, VT and Comics Workbook in Pittsburgh, PA, and tabled at the annual Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda. Recently, he was selected by cartoonist Edie Fake for the 2017 CAKE Chicago Cupcake Award, and will attend the expo next year with a new mini-comic created under the Fake's mentorship.
